Boeheim's Army Dominates TBT Opener, Cruises Past Herkimer Originals

 Syracuse, NYBoeheim's Army, the fan-favorite alumni squad representing Syracuse basketball, kicked off their The Basketball Tournament (TBT) campaign with an emphatic 97-71 victory over the Herkimer Originals in their opening round matchup at SRC Arena. The win signals a strong start for the team, which showcased its formidable perimeter shooting and cohesive play.

Led by a scorching performance from Buddy Boeheim, who poured in a game-high 24 points, including seven crucial three-pointers, Boeheim's Army asserted control early. Fellow sharpshooter Elijah Hughes was equally impressive, adding 21 points with five triples of his own. Together, the duo combined for 45 points and a dozen three-pointers, setting the tone for a dominant offensive display.

The team's long-range accuracy was a major factor, as Boeheim's Army collectively drained 18 three-pointers at an astounding 62.3% clip. This barrage from beyond the arc, complemented by strong contributions from players like Jimmy Boeheim (10 points) and Jacob Gilyard (10 points, 11 assists, securing a double-double), proved too much for the Herkimer Originals. Coach Allen Griffin's squad also benefited from 28 bench points and excellent ball movement, tallying 27 assists on the night.

The victory sets a high standard for Boeheim's Army as they advance in the tournament. Their next challenge will be against We Are D3 in the second round. With such a well-rounded performance in their opener, featuring star shooters, strong bigs, and elite ball-handlers, Boeheim's Army is clearly poised for a deep run in TBT 2025.
